Summer School 2025 on Neurotechnology and Neuroinformatics under the VIBraTE Project

The first Summer School on Neurotechnology and Neuroinformatics, organized within the framework of the VIBraTE (ERA Chair) project, funded by the European Union, was held in the Villa List Hotel, Sozopol, from 26 to 30 May 2025. The event brought together doctoral students, young scientists and established researchers from Bulgaria and abroad with interests in the fields of neuroscience, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence and brain-computer interfaces (BCIs).

The theme of the school – “Bridging Implants, Non-Invasive BCIs, and Neuroinformatics” – was developed through lectures, workshops, practical demonstrations, ethical discussions and work on group projects, uniting different scientific and engineering approaches. Participants had the opportunity to meet with prominent international speakers, present their research in a poster session and develop innovative ideas in collaboration with other young scientists.

Among the highlights of the program were:

  • Demonstrations of non-invasive brain-computer interfaces and eye-tracking technologies
  • Demonstration of a brain phantom, which allowed participants to get up close and personal with human anatomy
  • Discussion of issues related to intellectual property, neural implant technologies and the use of AI in science

A demonstration of project results was carried out within the school to students from the cities of Sozopol and Burgas.

The event ended with a certificate awarding ceremony. The school was recognized as a course by the Center for Doctoral Training of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (edu.bas.bg) with a teaching load of 20 hours (1 ECTS credit).
